Teacher Tutors, LLC was founded in 2010 by an experienced business owner, educator, and parent with a clear mission: to provide high-quality, personalized supplemental education rooted in community and care.
Teacher Tutors is the culmination of its founder’s professional, educational, and personal experiences. Founder and Director Debra Kirchen began her career as a real estate agent while completing her undergraduate degree. Beyond selling homes, this role taught her a vital skill that would later define Teacher Tutors — listening carefully to families and understanding their unique needs. Helping families acclimate to their communities was central to her work and inspired her vision of Teacher Tutors as a truly community-based organization.
While working as a realtor, Debra pursued her long-term goal of becoming an educator. She held part-time and substitute teaching positions while completing her degrees, ultimately earning a Master’s degree in Childhood Education with a minor in Special Education from New York University. Debra taught in New York City public schools before transitioning to suburban districts, gaining experience across diverse educational environments with varying levels of resources and curriculum.
This exposure shaped her ability to be resourceful and adaptable. She worked with multiple curricula, created lesson plans across grade levels, collaborated with educators, and learned from leaders in her field. These experiences now inform her role in carefully selecting and training top educators to tutor students who need supplemental academic support.
A Commitment to Community: Debra’s goal has always been to provide outstanding supplemental education while helping to close the achievement gap. Teacher Tutors proudly provides free tutoring services to local women’s shelters, extending academic support to students who need it most. Debra is also an active member of the Rotary Club of Livingston, donating her time, resources, and financial support to local and global organizations in need.
