Carmen, a master tutor, has been teaching in Essex County for over ten years. Although he is certified as an elementary teacher for grades K-6, he has garnered extensive experience working with students aged 14-21 at his time at one of northern NJ’s top private schools for students with autism and related challenges. Carmen has extensive experience utilizing ABA teaching principles and has taught and supported high-school aged students with special needs in the areas of functional mathematics, ELA, and science as well as daily living skills and social skills. Carmen also designed and implemented a travel training program for adults with autism spectrum disorder and served as a transition coordinator. In his role as transition coordinator, he developed and coordinated community work-based learning experiences for students and facilitated parents in accessing transition services such as guardianship, SSI/Medicare, and DDD funding. Carmen’s attention to detail and dedication to his students has served him well during his time in the field of special education. His willingness to go the extra mile to promote the development of his students is driven by the fact that he is not only a teacher: he is also a parent. Carmen sees his students not only through the lens of an educator: he looks upon them with the compassion and empathy of a caring parent. He fully embraces his duty as an educator to help his students achieve their maximum potential enabling them to lead productive, fulfilling lives upon graduating. Carmen’s calm demeanor, patience, and sense of humor help keep his students motivated and engaged. In his spare time, Carmen enjoys spending time with his wife and five children and playing the acoustic guitar.
